What is KITDR?
KITDR stands for Kangaroo Kids Institute for Teacher Development and Research.
It is an initiative of Kangaroo Kids Education Limited.
What is Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE)?
Early childhood is the period from birth to 8 years. Children between ages 2 ½ to 5 years are called preschoolers and 5years till 8 are the primary years. Early Childhood Care and Education is a course that equips you to teach children of this age most effectively.
What is this Diploma in ECCE about?
The Diploma in ECCE focuses on training individuals to teach and facilitate learning in the preschool years.
Is this the same as Montessori training?
Montessori is just one of the many philosophies of education and is NOT the same as the Diploma in ECCE. The Montessori philosophy and others are however incorporated into ECCE.
Am I eligible for the course?
You are eligible for this course if you have:
Completed Std. XII with 50% or equivalent
Fairly good English speaking skills
A passion for teaching children
I have completed Std. X and then did a diploma course in fashion designing/ home science etc…Am I still eligible for the course?
Yes.
I have completed Std. XII but haven’t got my results yet. Am I eligible?
You will get provisional admission. However, if you do not meet the criteria after the results are out, KITDR will grant/terminate full admission on discretion.
What is the duration of this course?
The course will be completed in a period of 1 year. It is a part-time course i.e. Monday- Friday from 9:00 a.m. onwards. You need to contribute 4 hours everyday.
I haven’t been in touch with studying for the last 20 years. Do you think I will be able to manage?
The course offered by KITDR ensures that no individual feels pressurized and is forced into unhealthy competition. Apart from that, we make learning an enjoyable experience with an aim to empower and provide opportunities for self-learning.
Is there any age bar for enrolling in this course/being a preschool teacher?
No, there is no age bar for enrolling in the course. One is eligible for teaching preschoolers as long as one is physically fit and has no difficulties in performing routine tasks involved in teaching preschoolers.
Is this course recognized?
Is this affiliated to any university/government?
The Diploma in ECCE is a pre-requisite for teaching in kindergartens in India.
All ECCE courses in India are conducted by autonomous bodies and are not affiliated to any university. KITDR is a trusted brand name all over India and the course is equivalent to other similar ECCE courses offered by any independent body. Candidates who have successfully completed the programs offered by KITDR have the essential skills and are eligible to work in diverse preschool set-ups in India including Kangaroo Kids and Billabong High Schools (up to Grade 2) or other schools.
Can I teach in Australia, the UK, the U.S.A., Canada or New Zealand?
Employment as preschool teachers abroad is subject to the specific country and their state licensing rules. Candidates who have successfully completed the programs offered by KITDR have a global insight into preschool education.
What will I learn in this course?
The course has two components that are crucial for successful completion of the course - theory and practical. There are theory modules for each area of child development. The practical module would entail observation, assistance and teaching children of different age groups in Kangaroo Kids schools and other schools.
Can I do half of this course now and the remaining half next year?
No. The course is carefully designed in such a way that both theory and fieldwork is interlinked intricately. It is necessary that the course is completed as a whole.
I will be going abroad in a few months’ time. Can I still do this course?
It is necessary that the entire course is completed if one wants a Diploma at the end of it. KITDR will not issue a Diploma unless the candidate has successfully met with all specified requirements.
What are these requirements?
Attendance – 80% in theory and practicals
Submission of all assignments and projects in coursework
Performance in fieldwork
I may have to go abroad for a month in the middle of the year. Is that ok?
One of the prerequisites for successful completion of the course entails that you have 80% attendance through the year. KITDR will not take responsibility for those students who do not meet these criteria.
I am really bad at drawing. Can I still do the course?
Although you would be required to use art and other media through the year, it is NOT necessary that you are good at it.
I don’t want practical training. I only want to know more about child psychology. Can I only attend lectures?
NO. At KITDR, we emphasize the need for a blend of both theory and practicals for holistic understanding of child development.
How will this course be beneficial for me?
One gets intensive theoretical and practical inputs in early childhood care and education which will give you the appropriate training you would need to be a preschool teacher.

Will there be homework? How much extra time will I have to give towards the course?
A certain amount of work will need to be completed at home in the sense that you may be required to work on teaching aids or other projects in the course of the year. The amount of time will depend on each individual’s capacity.
Will there be exams?
Candidates will be assessed on the basis of ongoing evaluations throughout the year. Assessments have been designed to integrate different learning styles and interests.
There are no final examinations at the end of the year.

The parent company regularly advertises job openings at Kangaroo Kids and Billabong High International Schools. Candidates can apply for these positions and if their profile matches the requirement, they will be given preference.
Will other schools recognize me as a teacher after doing the course or am I only eligible to teach at Kangaroo Kids preschool?
Students who have successfully completed the course in Mumbai have been absorbed not only in KK schools but also in international schools such as Dhirubhai Ambani International School, Ecole Mondiale World School and Pinnacle World School in Mumbai.

How much will I earn as a preschool teacher?
That depends on pay scales offered by each school. There is no fixed pay scale given by the Government.
Who is responsible for conducting the course? Is the faculty well-qualified?
Yes. KITDR ensures that the faculty for this course is well qualified and equipped with appropriate educational qualifications necessary to teach. (A Master’s degree in human / child development)
How will the lectures be delivered?
At KITDR, lectures are not ‘delivered.’ We believe in facilitation of knowledge through empowerment of students and thus use media such as handbooks, workbooks, powerpoint presentations, documentaries, movies and others to cater to each individual’s learning style.
Will I have to bear any additional costs?
All additional costs in terms of teaching aids and others will be borne by the students themselves.
If I enrol for the course and then have to drop out due to illness/ relocation/ marriage etc, will I get a refund?
There is NO refund whatever the reason for dropping out.
